      Ναι, το ολοκλήρωσες το βιβλίο σου αλλά για να είμαστε ειλικρινείς, θα προτιμούσες να το προωθήσεις στο εξωτερικό με έναν ατζέντη (literary agent).


      Μέσα στην εβδομάδα που μας πέρασε, το συγκεκριμένο θέμα τέθηκε δύο φορές σε συζητήσεις που είχα μαζί σας.

      Όπως όλες οι αποφάσεις που παίρνουμε σε αυτή τη ζωή, έτσι και αυτή έχει τα θετικά αλλά και τα αρνητικά της.

      Αν δε το δοκιμάσεις, δεν θα μάθεις, οπότε εγώ από την μεριά μου παραθέτω ενδεικτικά κάποια στοιχεία που μπορούν να σε βοηθήσουν να επικοινωνήσεις με πρακτορεία τα οποία λειτουργούν αυτή τη στιγμή. Ελπίζω να σε βοηθήσουν.

      Πριν διαβάσεις τη λίστα και ξεκινήσεις την αναζήτησή σου, επίτρεψέ μου να σου επισημάνω δύο πράγματα, πριν διαλέξεις τον literary agent που θα σε εκπροσωπεί.

      Τι πρέπει να γνωρίζεις για τον literary agent

      Ποσοστά literary agent

      Υπολόγισε ότι το ποσοστό που θα δίνεις στον ατζέντη θα είναι 10-15% όποιου ποσού δικαιούσαι και θα αφαιρείται πριν φτάσει στα χέρια σου.

      Έρευνα

      Κάνε την έρευνα της ζωής σου! Αν αφιέρωσες στη συγγραφή του βιβλίου σου 1-2 χρόνια, οφείλεις να αφιερώσεις πολύ χρόνο στην αναζήτηση του κατάλληλου ανθρώπου ή γραφείου που θα πιστέψει σε αυτό και θα το παλέψει για αυτό με νύχια και με δόντια. Δες τι βιβλία έχει εκπροσωπήσει ο ατζέντης και ποια ήταν η προωθητική τους πορεία. Πως πήγαν οι πωλήσεις τους; Διάλεξε τον ατζέντη που γνωρίζει το είδος που γράφεις.

      Παραδειγματίσου

      Ξεψάχνισε τον αγαπημένο σου συγγραφέα (ίδιας θεματολογίας με το δικό σου βιβλίο). Συνήθως οι γνωστοί συγγραφείς ευχαριστούν τον ατζέντη τους σε αρκετές από τις δημόσιες εμφανίσεις τους ή στις σελίδες των βιβλίων τους. Βάλε στόχο να συνεργαστείς μαζί του. Διώξε τις αρνητικές σκέψεις. Μπορείς να το καταφέρεις!

      Άνοιξε τα αυτιά σου

      Ακολούθησε τις οδηγίες τους σε σχέση με το υλικό που θέλουν να τους στείλεις: μη στείλεις όλο το βιβλίο σου αν σου ζητήσουν μόνο τρία κεφάλαια και μια περίληψη. Μη στείλεις λιγότερα από αυτά που σου ζητούν.

      Να είσαι ειλικρινής

      Ο ατζέντης απαιτεί να τον σεβαστείς. Αν στέλνεις το βιβλίο σου σε αρκετές εταιρίες ταυτόχρονα, γνωστοποίησέ το στο email σου. Αν πάλι αναμένεις την απάντησή του για να το στείλεις και αλλού, γράψε το επίσης. Να είσαι ειλικρινής.

      Στόχευσε βάσει είδους

      Το είδος με το οποίο ασχολείσαι, επηρεάζει και το ποσοστό απόρριψης ενός ατζέντη. Αν γράφεις ποίηση, βιογραφίες ή και διηγήματα, τότε ετοιμάσου να λάβεις πολλές απορρίψεις. Σου εύχομαι να είσαι τυχερός και να πετύχεις με το πρώτο τηλεφώνημα τον ατζέντη εκείνον που θα σου δώσει μια ευκαιρία και εσύ θα τον εμπιστευτείς.

      Πληρωμή literary agent

      Πολλοί agents πληρώνονται ακόμα και για να διαβάσουν μόνο τη δουλειά σου. Πρόσεχε!

      Επιμελητής

      Ο ατζέντης μπορεί να σου συστήσει να προσλάβεις έναν επιμελητή να συμμαζέψει το βιβλίο σου. Αν δεν το έχεις κάνει ήδη, σκέψου το σοβαρά.

      Συμβουλέψου τους ειδικούς

      Έχεις δικηγόρο; Δικηγόρο που να γνωρίζει από συγγραφικά συμβόλαια; Αν όχι, τότε είναι καιρός να αποφασίσεις ποιος θα εκπροσωπεί τα συμφέροντά σου. Πριν υπογράψεις με τον ατζέντη, δώσε του να σου αναλύσει το συμβόλαιό σου και να σε ενημερώσει για τα πάντα!

      Πότε πρέπει να πεις “αντίο”

      Αν προχώρησες στην συμφωνία, αυτό σημαίνει ότι δεσμεύτηκες ένα μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα με τον συγκεκριμένο επαγγελματία. Μη διστάσεις να διακόψεις την συμφωνία σας αν δεις ότι δεν ασχολείται καθόλου με σένα και το έργο σου. Προχώρα παρακάτω. Οι πολλοί πελάτες του, δε σε αφορούν αν δεν σου δίνει τις απαιτούμενες υπηρεσίες. Το στάδιο στο οποίο βρίσκεται η προώθηση του βιβλίου σου, θα μπει εμπόδιο σε αυτή σου τη απόφαση.

        Εχω γράψει κάποια παιδικά βιβλία και είμαι σε φάση αναζήτησης αντζέντη για το εξωτερικό. Διάβασα το κείμενο σου και έχω δύο απορίες που αναφέρουν οι αντζέντηδες στην Αγγλία. Ζητάνε chapters with sae (τι είναι το sae;) και κάποιοι άλλοι θέλουν not unsolicited MSS (τι είναι αυτό;)

          Όταν διαβάζεις για “not unsolicited MSS” σημαίνει ότι μπορείς να στείλεις ένα email με το outline και ένα σύντομο βιογραφικό σου ρωτώντας αν υπάρχει ενδιαφέρον εκ μέρους τους για την ιδέα σου οπότε σε αυτή την περίπτωση θα σου ζητηθεί να στείλεις ολοκληρωμένη πρόταση. Καλή επιτυχία!
